What about the game?

Van Helsing, is a another game I had not played until this video, more than likely I had not heard of Van Helsing either as a game, character or movie back in 2004. The game starts in what I assume is France, or a European country with Van Helsing tracking down and confronting ‘Dr Jeckyal and Hyde’ who is a bit of a monster. However this is just to break you into the game the fight is easy and cinematic, introduces you to the games basic mechanics.

The game does look quite impressive, with reflections on the church floor looking very nice when this game is run on an Xbox 360. Reminds on the level of detail old games like medal of honour used have in the back in the early 2002’s when they poured all the details in the first level of the game which made it amazing and the rest of the game whilst good, was not quite like the first level, You never forget how good the first level was! I Van Helsing for a fair time and honestly I would definitely come back to it in the future.

Summary of the Game

Van Helsing is a 2004 action-adventure game developed by Saffire and published by Vivendi Universal Games for the Xbox (also released on PS2). It is a tie-in to the 2004 Universal Pictures film starring Hugh Jackman.

Setting and Story Set in 1887, you play as the legendary monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing. Sent by the Vatican to Transylvania, Van Helsing must stop the evil Count Dracula who is attempting to bring forth an army of the undead. Along the way you battle iconic Universal Monsters including Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, Mr Hyde, and many more.

Gameplay

• Action Combat: Mix of gunplay with pistols, shotgun, and crossbow alongside powerful melee weapons like tojo blades and dual scimitars.
• Finishing Moves: Spectacular context-sensitive kill moves that dispatch enemies in cinematic fashion.
• Gadgets & Upgrades: Collect Power Glyphs to upgrade weapons and abilities.
• Exploration: Large semi-open levels with platforming, grappling hook sections, and secret areas.
• Boss Battles: Memorable encounters against the film’s main monsters.

Graphics & Sound On the original Xbox the game features dark gothic atmospheres, detailed monster designs, and strong use of lighting. Hugh Jackman’s likeness is well captured, and the voice acting (including many film cast members) adds to the cinematic feel. The orchestral score is suitably dramatic.

Reception & Legacy Van Helsing was one of the better movie tie-in games of its era. It was praised for its fun combat, variety of weapons, and faithful use of the Universal Monsters. While the campaign is fairly short (6–8 hours), it remains a fun, over-the-top monster-hunting experience that many retro fans still enjoy today, especially for its satisfying melee and finishing moves.
